Though Uncle Marcus’ collection of African art forms part of the backdrop and interior decoration in several Carol Day stories, [Cousin Hugo] is the only story where a piece of African art assumes an important role.

Carol’s cousin Hugo and his partner in crime, con man Vernon Flowers, first appeared in the first Carol Day story 7 years earlier, attempting to extort money from Carol’s Uncle Marcus.
